College Preparatory Curriculum

Orinda Academy offers a college prep curriculum in a small classroom setting. Our teachers are trained to recognize each student’s learning style and are skilled at successfully teaching a challenging curriculum to all students, including those who have learning differences.

Our course of study, which includes AP and honors classes, meets the a-g college preparatory requirements of the University of California and other private and public colleges and universities worldwide. We are also fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Our courses, with Orinda Academy graduation requirements and UC admissions requirements in parentheses, include:

English (4 years) focusing on developing writing and literature skills

Math (3 years) and Science (2 years, UC 2 years lab science) offering a range of courses to meet each student's needs

Social Studies: (OA 3 years, UC 2 years) includes a broadly humanistic approach to ideas, events, and people that shaped our world

French, Spanish, and American Sign Language (OA 1 year OR 1 year visual arts; UC 2 years of same language) with upper division immersion programs

The Arts (OA 1 year OR 1 year foreign language; UC 1 year) are also a very important part of our curriculum including dance, visual arts, drama, and music.

Physical education (3 years) opportunities include yoga, team sports, soccer, and students independent PE study

Academic coaching provides the support and develops the skills students need to succeed.

Additional course opportunities are offered during the summer for makeup or advancement.

Technology in the Classroom: BYOD

Because we live in a largely technocentric world, Orinda Academy teachers believe in the importance of providing students with a skill set to allow them to creatively use digital-age resources and experiences.

Our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program teaches students how to use the tools of technology in the classroom and give them opportunities and challenges for growth and exploration. We have campus-wide wireless internet access to support student-teacher interaction, collaborative projects and publication of student work.

Beyond The Classroom

To broaden horizons and provide our students with additional experiences, Orinda Academy has a robust program offering opportunities outside the classroom from travel to volunteering to learning special skills.
