OA Boys B-Ball takes 3rd in Geyserville Tournament

OA Boys B-Ball takes 3rd in Geyserville Tournament

Brandon "All-Tournament" Davis takes a jump shot

The Orinda Academy Boys Basketball team had a great week before winter vacation winning 3 out of 4 games and bringing home a 3rd Place trophy from the Geyserville Small Schools Classic.  The week began with a 44-35 road-trip win over El Sobrante Christian School avenging last year's defeats against a tough league opponent.  David Treas led the way with 23 points.  In the first round at Geyserville, we dominated last year's champion, Leggett Valley by a score of 54-33.  However, our 2nd round opponent, Pacific Union, was a last minute replacement due to a snowstorm and was led by 6' 8" Tyler Theisman who shot 19-23 (including two dunks and hitting all net on every jumper) and a total of 39 points.  Our boys fought valiantly and when Dylan Goldman hit net on a 3-point shot from mid-court at the halftime buzzer, we were down only 10 points.  Despite showing a lot of heart in the 2nd half, OA succumbed by a score of 78-61.  Still, our boys came back strong the next day defeating the host, Geyserville High School, 53-42 in the 3rd place game.  David led all scorers with 61 points over the 3 games which also included a 20-rebound game, but it was Brandon Davis who was named to the All-Tournament team.  Besides his "beastly" board work and 47 points, Brandon was clearly our emotional leader on the court and carried us when we needed.  Aubrey Love scored 32 points including a "double-double" in one game and stellar defense throughout, and Chris Scott provided excellent leadership and great passing with 13 assists.  Overall, it was a great team effort and lots of fun.  The boys head into the New Year with a 9-3 record and looking forward to this week's road games at Napa Christian on Tuesday and at Pleasant Hill on Thursday.  Our next home will be on Tuesday, January 13th at 3:30 PM.  Hope to see you there.  Happy New Year to all!    Mitch

Our girls team is still attempting to win our first game, but have showed steady improvement.  We also showed great spirit and sportsmanship at Geyserville, provided great support for the boys team, and had a great time, too.  Julia Friedman scored 25 points over the 3 games and was also named to the All-Tournament team.  The girls will also be on the road at Napa and Pleasant Hill this coming week.
