The newest addition to the OA Eagles...
The Orinda Academy Mountain Bike Racing Team
Founded in 2008-2009 by seasoned racer and Orinda Academy student Austin Roberts, and sanctioned by the NorCal HS MTB League, the most newly organized team sport to join the Orinda Academy Eagles is the Mountain Bike Racing Team.
This season the team consisted of six members. Due to his prior success in racing under the Miramonte Mountain Bike Racing Team, Austin Roberts will be advancing to the Varsity category this year. The remaining boys on the team, Dylan Markus, Aubrey Love, Alex Brown, and Mac Phillips will compete at the Junior Varsity level. And Tai Infante, who is the sole female on the team and also the youngest member, will be competing in the Freshman/Sophomore category. The Orinda Academy Mountain Bike Racing Team welcomes Steve Fong and Tim Gott as they offer their years of coaching expertise to the newly formed team.
There were five competitions in the 2009 Northern California High School Mountain Bike Racing League Series beginning with the Central Coast Invitational at Fort Ord in Monterey and ending with the State Championships at Boggs Mountain in Cobb, CA. The team is proud to have completed the series as close as just three places away from entering the Nationals, which has a qualifier of 15th place. Alex Brown finished 18th in the State and Aubrey Love 20th. Tai Infante was our shining star finishing as close as 11th place in a previous race, but was forced to drop out due to sickness before the season ended.
All in all, it was a very exciting and fun year, and especially considering this was five out of six of our students' very first experience with the sport, we have high hopes for next year!
