On Thursday, March 14th, Orinda Academy graduate Sarah Heyward, ’09, visited our school to speak to the current students about her two year study abroad program in France. Sarah spent part of one year in southern France around Aix-En-Provence, and the other year in Paris. Sarah was also able to visit Morocco, Norway, Germany, Italy, and England during this time. Sarah described the advantages of such a program, and how she currently is an advisor for the study abroad program at Sonoma State University. Sarah displayed much personal growth and confidence, and was quite articulate and expressive in describing her trips, adventures, and exposure to culture and language. It was very rewarding for our current community to see the advantages and educational value of international travel and a homestay. Many OA grads have stayed in foreign countries such as Spain, Czechoslovakia, Japan, New Zealand, Jamaica, and more. This is why we have international travel as a big part of Educational Adventures week, in which we can offer our students this exposure to foreign cultures and languages.
