Attendance Reporting – Parents and Guardians
If your student will be absent from school for any reason, either for the whole day or for part of the day, a parent or guardian must email as soon as you know of the absence so that we may record it and report to teachers. Students may NOT report their own absences to teachers or administrators. Thank you!

Parent Survey – Community Building
Dear OA Students and Families, I am writing with an update about the school’s plans for a transition back to campus. As I said a few weeks ago, this will be a gradual and phased process. Each phase will allow us to assess the community’s preparedness for being on campus safely, and we will not progress to the next phase until we have met all of our expectations at the previous phase. Please note that the following plans are subject to Contra Costa County remaining in the Red Tier (or lower) and that we will return to an all-remote program immediately in the event that the county falls back into the Purple Tier. In addition, we will postpone all outside activities in the event of inclement weather or AQI above 150. Today I want to share with you our plans for Phase 1, Grade-Level Community Building Meetings. On Thursday, October 22, and Friday, October 23, we plan to have grade-level groups meet on campus, outside, for about 2 hours each. There will be no regularly scheduled classes on these days.9th grade: Thursday, October 22, 10 a.m. – noon10th grade: Thursday, October 22, 1 – 3 p.m.11th grade: Friday, October 23, 10 a.m. – noon12th grade: Friday, October 23, time TBDDuring the activities, students will be oriented to our new safety procedures, including a self-assessment to be completed at home (details to follow), and check-in protocols. We also hope to have fun! Parents, please complete the survey (linked below) to let us know whether your child will attend. We will be in touch soon with more details about the events.Parent Survey – Community Building

Conferences – Thanks Everyone!
Thanks to everyone for scheduling and attending conferences for the past two days. We’re all looking forward to a productive second half of first semester – and a long weekend!

OA Talent Show – If You Missed It…
If you weren’t able to attend the talent show watch party last week, click below to watch the video. Thanks to all our talented performers for sharing your creativity with us, and thanks again to Molly for putting it all together.

CIA – Next Meeting
For our second CIA meeting, we’d like to discuss systemic racism and how it connects to SAT/ACT and standardized testing in general. This meeting is a safe space for both those who do and don’t believe in systemic racism to contribute their thoughts and join our discussion. Where does systemic racism start? Does it still exist? All students, staff, and faculty are welcome to join us. This is a safe space for everyone to contribute and we invite all to attend and participate at your comfort level.

The OA Show with Simon – Episode 4
Music, squirrels, and “Where’s Rais?” – Enjoy!

Congrats and Best Wishes to Therese!
We are excited to share that senior Therese has been named a semi-finalist in the Posse Scholarship Program. The Posse Foundation “identifies, recruits and trains individuals with extraordinary leadership potential. Posse Scholars receive full-tuition leadership scholarships from Posse’s partner colleges and universities.” We are proud of Therese’s status as a semi-finalist in this highly competitive program, and wish her the best for the next phase of the selection process!Exercising – Civil Duty and Self-Care
This week we found Kat, Abi, and Crystal doing their duty for self and country. Kat watched the VP debate and then joined her parents in a discussion of ballots as they voted, Crystal took advantage of a clear day to get some exercise in for her PE class, and Abi walked her cat, who may win some kind of award for most appearances in the Friday Flyer.
Drop-in with Danielle
Danielle Jaynes, our Learning Specialist, will be hosting a weekly drop-in period every Wednesday during 7th period. Students should email Danielle for a Zoom invitation if you would like to stop by during her drop-in. College Corner
