Poetic Interlude – From Leo
As part of an assignment for U.S. History, Leo B. wrote a poem about Abraham Lincoln, which he has allowed us to share with you. Thank you, Leo, for sharing your writing talent!
Abraham Lincoln was a phoenix who rose from the flames of History.
Log cabin cradle to White House politician.
Made from clay, but transforming himself into gold.
He was the eye in the hurricane for many.
He was passionately pursuing his dreams,
like the captain of a ship pursuing a longed-for destination.
Wry but firm in his stovepipe hat;
He mended the tears in the American fabric.
Ears open to everyone,
And eyes fixed on the breaking of chains.
Chose “to be,” when the tigers of “to not be” were chasing him.
His being was brutally undone,
But his legacy is eternal.
