Getting assigned nightly homework is common for children as young as five years old. While children of this age typically receive assignments that take no more than a few minutes, their at-home workload increases as they progress from one grade to the next. By high school, students may be required to do homework that takes several hours to complete each night. Contending with such a workload is not unusual for both public and private school students. Key to completing homework in a timely manner is working on it in a quiet space free from distractions. Extracurricular activities can fill up a child’s nightly schedule, so it’s important to assess the time a student needs for his homework responsibilities and adjust other obligations accordingly.
Orinda Academy strives to provide a healthy academic balance for our private school students. Though we maintain the highest scholastic standards, we recognize the need for children to have time for friends, family, and fun. To learn more about our East Bay preparatory school, call (925) 254-7553.
